Harry's Game
Hucclecote 46 – Thornbury 0
Huccklecote Under 13s sailed into the next stage of the County Cup with an eight try demolition of Thronbury.
Playing in terrible weather conditions, both sides tried to play open rugby, but it was Hucclecote who adapted to the conditions quicker and took an early strangle hold on the game.
Thornbury held firm for ten minutes but eventually the damn broke. Minutes after having a try disallowed for a forward pass, Hucclecote made their possession pay with two quick tries.
First number eight Jordan Fowke powered over, from the restart Harry Kirkham smashed his way to the line.
With the wind and rain at their backs Hucclecote drove forward relentlessly. Thornbury tried to relieve the pressure with a kick upfield. The ball was retrieved by the Hucclecote backs who sensibly took the ball back into their forwards, Kirkham again on hand to take the ball over the line.
On the stroke of half time Kirkham grabbed his hat trick try, powering home from just outside the 22. Callum Drummond converted to make the score 22 – 0 at half time.
Any hopes Thornbury had of making use of the weather conditions in the second half were shattered when Jordan Fowke crossed the line with only two minutes played. He was adjudged to have knocked on, but Hucclecote recovered the ball from the scrum and Callum Drummond dived over for the score.
Kirkham completed his own super-show with two identikit tries – both seeing him outpace the tiring defence to score under the posts.
Kieron Langley drove the final nail into the Thornbury coffin with five minutes to go after a rare visitors attack was broken up, leaving the winger to run in unopposed from his own 22.
