County Cup Run Continues
Hucclecote 41 - Stow 0
Hucclecote u13s came through the second round of County Cup matches without conceding a point – the fourth match in a row that the opposition has failed to score, taking their tally to 168 unanswered points.
The margin of victory did not do justice to the efforts of a determined Stow side who put up a stiff fight throughout. The forward battle dominated the game, with Stow gaining the upper hand in much of the set piece play..
If Stow had been able to turn possession into points the result could well have been different. As it was Hucclecote made better use of the ball and eventually found a way through the defence.
Callum Drummond thought he had scored but was adjudged to have been held up, the ball was secured from the resulting five metre scrum and moved quickly through the backs. A neat pass from Ross Hannaford found flanker Brad Harris who dived over by the posts. Callum Drummond converted.
Stow fought back well but a turnover in the Hucclecote half led to the next try as Kieron Langley sprinted home from half way.
Hucclecote missed a number of scoring opportunities, but respite was short lived for Stow as Drummond burst through the defence to score under the posts. Surprisingly he missed the conversion.
‘Cote went further ahead after the break after Stow attempted to clear their lines with a kick downfield. It was collected by Langley who ran cross field before handing on to Drummond, a clever inside pass found Craig Thompson arriving at speed to score. Drummond added the extras.
Two more tries followed in quick succession, both resulting from powerful forward efforts. First Oliver Proverbs smashed his way over into the corner, then Harry Kirkham was driven over after a clean take at a line out.
Langley grabbed the final try on the stroke of half time. The move looked to have broken down when he was tackled into touch but he managed to release the ball before going over the line. He was quickly back onto his feet to take the scoring pass. Drummond converted with the last kick of the match. |
