Hucclecote Cruise Home - Despite The Weather
Painswick 0 – Hucclecote 33
Hucclecote U13s extended their unbeaten run to six games after a 33 – 0 defeat of Painswick.
The match, played in difficult conditions, did not produce a result that reflected the effort put in by the home side. The Painswick pack proved a difficult nut to crack and constantly created problems for the visitors but failed to turn possession into points.
Hucclecote were forced to defend from the kick off and sustained 15 minutes of pressure before they were able to launch a meaningful attack of their own.
A Painswick scrum was taken against the head and Hucclecote scrum half Charlie Hurst darted in field. Unable to find a way through the defence ‘Cote skipper Olly Proverbs chipped the ball into the corner for winger Will Camblien to touch down.,
Hucclecote turned on the power and ran in a second try minutes later, Callum Drummond sprinting in from just inside his own half. Drummond converted his own try to take the score to 0 – 12.
Drummond was on the score sheet again just before half time. As the Painswick defence creaked under the increasing pressure the ball was kicked back over the goal line by a defender, Drummond dived in to beat the defence to the ball, before adding the extras.
Hucclecote scored again immediately after the break, replacement winger Niall Wellington surging into the corner. He converted his own score from wide out on the left wing.
Painswick rallied and had long periods of possession but could not find their way through the Hucclecote defence. And it was the visitors who grabbed the final score when Josh Bailey stole the ball in a maul and sprinted home from 20 metres. Olly Proverbs added the conversion to seal the win.
