Hucclecote Strike Back For Victory
Cirencester 14 – Hucclecote 36
Hucclecote U13s had to battle back from the shock of going behind to two early tries to secure an excellent victory in their first fixture of the season.
Cirencester took a deserved lead after just five minutes when their powerful backs created an overlap on the Hucclecote right.
Minutes later, as the visitors defence got sucked into midfield, the home side made numbers count and scored again under the posts.
Only some dogged defence from Hucclecote prevented them going further behind, but as the clock ticked towards half time the visiting forwards began to gain the upper hand.
Their dominance paid off with a few minutes of the half remaining. A five metre scrum was turned infield, creating room for number eight Harry Kirkham to surge over the line. Oliver Proverbs added the conversion.
The second half saw Hucclecote rattle in three quick tries to put the game beyond their hosts.
The first came from a lineout on the Hucclecote 22, a powerful surge by the forwards sucked in the defence leaving room for Niall Wellington to sprint in under the posts for the first of his three tries.
Almost from the restart Hucclecote were back on the attack. A quick tap penalty caught Cirencester napping and Callum Drummond made the line from 30 metres out.
Hucclecote’s fourth try , and Wellington’s second, came after a break down the Hucclecote right, the ball moved quickly to the opposite wing for him to score.
Wellington completed his hat-trick of tries with five minutes of the game remaining. Replacement number eight Jordan Fowke confused the defence with an outrageous dummy and then popped a simple pass to his wing man to score unopposed.
The final try came on the stroke of full time. Cirencester attempted to clear their lines with a kick down field, it was collected an fed on to Callum Drummond who clattered his way through the defence to round off an impressive display by the Hucclecote squad.
