Hucclecote Under 13s - Match Reports

Sunday 26 November, 2006

'Cote Maintain 100% Record
Hucclecote 27 – Chosen Hill 5

Hucclecote U13s try scoring machine, Naill Wellington, notched up his third hat trick of the season as ‘Cote overcame a powerful Chosen Hill side to maintain their 100 per cent start to the season.

Both sides overcame the difficulties presented by a very boggy pitch to produce some excellent rugby.  The final score did not reflect the sheer hard work put in by the visiting side’s forwards.

They secured excellent ball throughout the game, and had their backs been able to match the effort of their forwards the score may well have been different.

The Hucclecote pack matched the efforts of their opponents with their defensive efforts and it was from turnover ball that the home side went ahead. Sam Bellingham stole possession in a ruck, the ball was fed back to Callum Drummond who launched a huge kick downfield.

The visiting defence expected the ball to find touch instead it stayed in field and winger Wellington collected the ball and scored under the posts.  Drummond added the conversion.

For the remainder of the first half Chosen Hill laid siege to the Hucclecote line, but despite coming close failed to cross the line.

The second half started in much the same way as the first, with Chosen Hill piling the pressure on through their powerful forwards.  It was ‘Cote who grabbed the next score though after Luke Foran charged down a kick and recovered the ball.  The Hucclecote backs made light work of the weather conditions and moved the ball quickly to the wing for Wellington to power home from 30 metres out.

Chosen Hill attacked from the kick off, an attempted clearance from full back Jack Stevens missed touch, Alex Runciman cut his way through the Hucclecote defence to get Chosen Hill onto the scoreboard.

‘Cote hit back powerfully and a lineout close to the Chosen Hill line was stolen by Foran who was driven to the line by the rest of his pack, Josh Bailey took the ball at the back and made it over the line for the try.

Callum Drummond made amends for a couple of missed conversions with a long-range penalty to move Hucclecote further ahead before Wellington rounded off his hat trick after a powerful run out of defence by Ryan Knox.
