Hucclecote Under 13s - Match Reports

Sunday 19 November, 2006

Wellington Puts Boot In Again
Hucclecote 36 – Chippenham 17

Hucclecote faced their sternest test of the season as the played host to a well drilled Chippenham side and fought back from a first half deficit to maintain their 100 per cent record this season.

The visitors wasted no time getting into their stride and went ahead with a well worked try after only five minutes.  They continued to control the ball for long periods but failed to turn possession into points.

The home side couldn’t continue to hold out, and Chippenham found space on the right wing to squeeze home for another score.

‘Cote hit back immediately after Chippenham failed to hold on to the restart.  From a midfield scrum the ball was worked through the centres to Kieran Langley who powered home from 30 metres.  Sam Carter added the extras.

Hopes of a quick come back were brushed aside seconds later as Chippenham attacked the Hucclecote right, a couple of defensive tackles were missed and the visitor’s winger outpaced the defence to score.  The conversion made the score 7 – 17 at the break.

Hucclecote rotated their squad during the interval and the changes paid immediate dividends.  Callum Drummond, playing out of position at stand-off, surged through the midfield before handing the ball on to Naill Wellington who scored in the corner.

The Chippenham defence had no answer to the power of Wellington and he crossed again two minutes later after number eight Jordan Fowke broke clear of the defence.  Five minutes Fowke was again the provider, slipping the ball on to Charlie Hurst to score.

Chippenham were now struggling to get out of their half as the Hucclecote side, led from the front by stand-in captain Harry Kirkham stepped up the pressure.  A rare attack from the visitors was broken up in midfield, Drummond chased his own kick ahead, a kind bounce saw the ball bounce back into his arms and he scored under the posts.

With the clock closing in on full time Hucclecote attacked again, Wellington broke clear down the right and through several would-be tacklers before crashing over by the posts.  Drummond converted to seal another impressive victory.
