Hucclecote Under 13s - Match Reports

Sunday 22nd October, 2006

Tigers Mauled by Powerful ‘Cote
Hucclecote U13s 57 – Cheltenham 0

Hucclecote U13s maintained their impressive start to the season with a nine-try mauling of Cheltenham Tigers.

Building on their win at Cirencester last week the boys in amber and black made short work of their opponents from up the A40.

It took just five minutes for the home side to breach the visiting defence, a kick out of defence was taken by Matt Fenton who made ground before slipping the ball inside to his forwards.  Ross Hannaford collected the ball in midfield to score in the corner.

Two minutes later the powerful Callum Drummond surged through from midfield to score under the posts.

Cheltenham then put some pressure on the Hucclecote line with some slick flowing rugby, but it came to nothing when the ball was stolen from a maul.  Kieron Langley almost made the line; Flanker Harry Kirkham was on hand to collect the ball and power over from the resulting ruck.

Langley crossed the line for the first of hit two tries with five minutes of the first half remaining.  Scott Howarth burst from midfield before handing the ball on to the left winger to canter in under the posts.  Callum Drummond converted to take the score to 26 – 0.

Langley grabbed his second on the stroke of half time after Ross Hannaford broke clear of the visiting defence before slipping the ball on to Kieron for the score.

Any hopes Cheltenham may have had of an easier second half were blown away after three minutes, Hucclecote moved the ball to the right and into the hands of replacement winger Niall Wellington who cruised in under the posts.

Drummond converted and then scored his second try of the match with a typical surge through midfield, minutes later Wellington was on the score sheet again after Hucclecote captain Olly Proverbs found him with a long looping pass.

With the Tigers penned back in defence it was only a matter of time before Hucclecote scored again, this time a forward drive down the right wing was stopped short when Harry Kirkham was pulled down just short of the line, Sam Bellingham was on hand to take the ball forward before handing it on to powerful number eight Jordan Fowke to smash his way over in the corner.
