Hucclecote Under 13s - Match Reports

County Cup
Sunday 28nd January, 2007

Ten Try 'Blitz Sinks Cheltenham
Cheltenham 0 - Hucclecote 60

Hucclecote Under13s got their County Cup run under way with ten-try demolition of Cheltenham.  Five unanswered tries on each half was enough to see the Gloucester side cruise home despite not playing their best rugby.

The writing was on the wall for the home side from as early as the fifth minute when ‘Cote scrum half Jack Murphy sniped round the blindside of a ruck to touch down in the corner.

Things went from bad to worse minutes later when centre Ross Hannaford intercepted a looping pass and sprinted in under the posts from 40 metres out.  Callum Drummond converted to take the score to 12 -  0 in as many minutes.

Despite the score Hucclecote were not having things all their own way, the Cheltenham pack made life difficult, especially at the set pieces.  With Josh Bailey and Jordan Fowke at the heart of things, Hucclecote steadied the ship and powered further ahead.

Callum Drummond helped himself to a brace of tries, the first coming after he beat the defense to a high kick launched by ‘Cote stand off Oliver Proverbs, the second came when he reacted to a lose  ball quicker than the Cheltenham defenders.  He added one of the conversions to stretch the lead to 22 – 0.

The fifth try came on the stroke of half time, the Hucclecote backs moved the ball quickly from a ruck and created space for winger Kieran Langley to claim his first try of the day.

The one-way traffic continued after the break, Drummond chasing his own kick ahead and claiming his hat trick try with just two minutes played.

Hucclecote were now in complete control and the match was being played entirely in the Cheltenham 22.  Harry Kirkham got himself on the score sheet taking a tap penalty and blasting over from close range, and Kieran Langley grabbed his second as he followed up a clever kick from Charlie Hurst.

Kirkham added to his personal tally five minutes later he was over the line again, this time with a trade mark powerful surge to score in the corner.

Langley completed his hat trick after another flowing move by the ‘Cote backs, Callum Drummond’s fifth conversion of the day took the score to 60 – 0.
